GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is the new frontier of SEO. With the emergence of ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews, being visible is no longer enough — you need to be cited by artificial intelligence models. This guide explains what GEO is, how the llms.txt file works, how to manage AI bots in your robots.txt, and which technical optimizations allow your site to be referenced by generative search engines.
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) refers to all techniques aimed at optimizing a website's visibility in responses generated by artificial intelligence models. While traditional SEO aims to appear in Google's 10 blue links, GEO aims to be cited, referenced, or recommended by ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Google Gemini, and other AI assistants.
